Pilates is a distinct discipline designed to enhance the body's strength and fluidity, and has proven to be an exceptionally effective choice of exercise for those seeking rehabilitation from injury; elite athletes aiming to improve performance; expectant and post-natal mothers wanting to balance the effects of pregnancy, and those whose goal is body conditioning through a method that's tailor made to their needs.
Pilates is one of the few 'gym' style exercises that works the entire body whilst focusing on abdominal strength as the source of core health and stability. Increasingly, clients are referred to GRIP by medics who recognise that a particular ache or pain can be eliminated - or at least reduced - by strengthening the supporting joints and muscles around the source of the problem.
Sessions incorporate floor exercises, with and without equipment, and special apparatus which use adjustable springs and can isolate the areas that, with balance and precision, need to be strengthened or enhanced.
Clients can attend one or more times per week, and can expect to feel or see the results of their regime within several sessions. Some choose to make Pilates their exercise of choice in the long-term and others attend in short spurts - often when they want a concentrated programme to recover from an injury or reach a particular goal. I enjoy working with each of these groups and am flexible to seeing my clients as often or as sporadically as is suitable to their needs and lifestyles.
THE GARUDA METHOD
As well as teaching on traditional Pilates equipment (Reformer, Chair and Cadillac ) I'm trained to teach the Garuda Method.
Combining the spirituality, pranayama and asana practice of yoga, the core strength and focus of pilates and the balletic grace of dance, the Garuda method is the answer to many people’s quest for a stronger, more flexible, toned body.
It has all the benefits of a robust cardiovascular workout, while stretching the mind as well as the body. Garuda is a test of mental as well as physical strength, demanding total concentration during the exercises.
Using the specially designed Garuda apparatus, you’ll learn to control your body through precise stretches and actions, placing an emphasis on smooth, seamless movements without any stress on joints. Through routines carefully choreographed, you’ll soon develop greater poise and control, and a leaner, more resilient body.
Whether you’re recovering from a physical injury, looking for an alternative to traditional gym workouts or an accomplished athlete, Garuda will challenge you but the rewards will be considerable.

I began training in - and subsequently teaching - Pilates after a successful career in banking which, whilst offering financial benefits, was increasingly proving to be a drain on my health, time and quality of life.
For many years I concentrated almost exclusively on bringing pilates to children and teenagers, and its myriad of benefits into mainstream schools. The aim was to counter the toll taken on posture by the increasing number of hours spent in front of a screen; improve general fitness levels and, in some cases, enhance athletic performance. As a mother of three, I also understood that enjoyment was an essential feature that had to characterise the sessions in order to ensure that the participants maintained a physical and psychological commitment to Pilates - a philosophy that I apply equally to my adult clients, whether they are 18 or 80.
Today, my practice almost exclusively takes place at the GRIP studio that I have custom built in Belsize Park, although I do occasionally visit some clients whose limited mobility doesn't afford them the freedom to come to me (for example those with MS or other similarly incapacitating medical conditions). My clients vary in age range, physical condition, lifestyle, needs and goals, and I'm committed to the journey alongside each of them with equal enthusiasm and determination. Some work with me for a limited duration to achieve their desired goals, others have been with me for many years and their physical & medical history is as familiar to me as my own.
With the exception of a few clients who choose to attend as a couple or with a friend, my sessions are all conducted individually, which means that my attention is focused entirely on one person whose capabilities and needs will set the pace and the agenda for our time together.
Whilst I encourage a consistent routine for the physical benefit of my clients, I also understand that the demands of a modern lifestyle can be prohibitive in this respect and therefore do my best to accommodate irregular sessions.
This is just one very small element of my commitment to your well-being in every respect.

My custom-built private studio is fully equipped with the latest state-of-the art Balanced Body machines fitted in a temperature controlled, glass fronted studio, located in a peaceful setting overlooked by trees. It's equipped with a Trapeze table, Reformers, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Orbit, and other props that could be needed for your session, including foam rollers, baby arcs, and magic circles.
The equipment is used according to the goals of the session as well as the physical capabilities of the client.
My studio is in Belsize Park (closest tube station is Swiss Cottage) and I welcome all levels of fitness and experience.
